Generally these bands will be offered to you with a very small PA supplied by the lead singer. If you want the best sound for your audience of 200 + PX be sure to ask for a Glenn Smith Sound system to suit your event!
Should you use the Inhouse team or Glenn Smith? There is often a lot of pressure from venues to use the in house supplier. And often they can supply a wide range of AV services for your event that outside suppliers do not have access too. And usually it is expensive! In many cases, and particularly with sound for your entertainment, Glenn Smith can offer a great alternative. Not only are we much more economical, but usually will supply a superior service. We specialize in live music production where AV companies often do not. We supply gear that will suit your event rather that overly expensive gear that you really do not need. And we will be working closely with you and your act with crew that really know thier stuff as we want you to come back next time!
What are the best speakers for your event? Well this depends on the size and shape of your room!
If your room is long and/or very reverberant (like a town hall for example) you will need long throw speakers with a narrow audio pattern of 40 degress (e.g. St Kilda Town Hall) which which will help to reduce reverbaration and extend clarity to the back of the event space. You should use our EV ETX 35 p speakers. To enhance clarity at the back of the room you may need to add extra speakers on a delay (to avoid the train station effect) to project clear sound to the rear of the room.
If your room is wide and the back wall is close, you should use a wide throw speakers with a 90 degree pattern. If you need to service the wide extremes of the room for speeches etc ( as can happen at Zinc or the National Gallery) then we can add outrigger speakers ( not on delay ) so your extreme audience is not left out! Nothing worse than speeches that cannot be heard!
This is probably the biggest Pro Audio Question ever! Great gear and/or a great sound guy? This is what I think. It is great to have incredible gear but if the sound guy is crap its game over! No doubt, there is a minimum standard a good guy needs to get a good sound for you act. And the gear needs to be appropriate for your act/venue. At Glenn Smith Event Production Hire we strive to find a balance between great gear and price but the sound guy will always get you there! I have seen Nexo gear sound crap and Behringer gear sound amazing and otherwise! It is great sound guys that make it happen. Gear that is really maintained will go a long way to make your event amazing!
My view on this is that if you can hand craft products there are some great advantages. I have 15 x Behringer 18 in sub woofer speakers and my main complaint is that while the speaker drivers are great the boxes are are not as well made as they could be. I have built some heavy duty boxes (but light wieght due to advanced desigh) based on thier design and the results have really been really pleasing. These boxes use loads of 45mm screws, proper slotted joints, 3mm aluminium silent grill and highest qualtiy glue and produce outstanding sound and endurance. No crappy staples used here!
Is Behringer gear good or bad? This is a very hotly debated question throughout the audio world. I have used a lot of Behringer gear and the answer is yes, and no. In days gone by, and in my experience, the biggest problem with Behringer gear was low quality switches and speaker box construction. The design of the gear was always innovative and high quality. The quality of speaker components and amplifiers was always quite good. Keeping in mind that Behringer mostly only makes caberat grade gear, there is some good news. With millions of dollars invested in their Chinese factory, Behringer have released thier X32 series of mixers. I spoke to Uli Behringer some 10 years ago about releasing a touring grade mixer and here it is! I have used 2 of them for 2 years now and they are amazing. The amplifiers Behringer make have alway been great (powerful and reliable) and that it what we use. Behringer speakers are well designed however suffer from two problems. The boxes are not well made ( l...
Which is the best gear? American, European, Chinese? In days gone by I would have said USA or English. In days gone by I have used gear from companies including Soundcraft, JBL, RCF, Phase linear, DBX etc. I have had to do many repairs on this gear and it has not been perfect! In the last few years chinese companies have been producing some really well made gear at very competitive prices. Bob audio are a top end producer and make great gear. Behringer with a slightly shaky past are now producing some great gear, especially the X32 line up. I have used some chinese made 'Ande' components and they are terrific. I recently bought some EV USA made speakers, ETX35p, in which the 15 in driver failed twice. It was repaired under warranty and do sound great
but shows that everything made in the USA is not perfect!
